My name is Midge Hagen. I'm a budding computer games designer. This is a space where I want to showcase my passion for creating immersive and captivating games. Feel free to explore and get to know me and my style.

I have been making videogames since I was a TINY HUMAN! As such I have plenty of Collage Work and Personal Projects to show off. Here you can see said PROJECTS, any ARTWORK I choose to post, a BLOG I may or may not use, and anything else creative I want to show off.

What to see what I do?

Soooo I was playing the new mine turtle game and I had to delete my most recent post so survive. It payed off I won! So here’s the re-upload of the Dan and Phil thing.

Yesterday I went to see DanAndPhil live for the first time! Genuinely a magical show. While waiting to be seated I doodled the tour poster. Thank you to @chloebalmain06 for coming with me and massively showing me up in the outfit department, even in the Scottish weather.

So… I’ve got a new addiction. Marvel rivals is good, really good and I wanted to have a try of its art style. In a “class shooter” game witch rivals is you can’t have the hero’s to alike, and most of Marvels “Tanky” characters who aren’t in the game yet (Cyclops/ She-hulk/ The Thing) there all mechanically very similar, so I wanted to pick a hero who I haven’t seen a lot of people suggest, who would themselves fill a unique hole in the roster.

Here’s my pitch: Hulking would play an aerial tank. By nature of balancing it wouldn’t be infinite flight like Ironman or Storm has but be on a long cooldown like star lord’s with more control. Falling once his wings have taken enough damage. Like how Punisher looses his turret. The gimmick being Hulkings attacks are good, but they are better when off the ground. Meaning you have to find and keep airtime to get the most out of your attacks, while being the centre of attention and getting shot down constantly.

Story wise the way I imagine it, this is a Teddy that belongs to the “Wakanda Space Empire” world in game. Set After the end of the Kree/ Skrull war. He is now acting king of both civilisations, married to Wiccan, much like they are in comics. When the Doctor Dooms start messing with the worlds one of those planets gets swapped out for one still in war time. (For argument let’s say planet hala {Kree}) That planet Hala lead by the supreme intelligence wants to continue fighting and dethrone Teddy so they team up with one of the Doom’s. Leading to Teddy being evacuated to Wakanda who help fend off the Kree. This means we can have an entire Skrullos/ Hala themed season. That’s a great setting for a map, as well as a great excuse to add hero’s like Wiccan and Speed useful for Wanda and Magneto’s story, Captain Marvel whose just too important to marvel comics to not show at some point, villains connected to the races like Yandu and the Super Skrull, its also an excuse to get the rest of the guardians in like Drax, Gamora, Nebula, and Cosmo the space Dog.

Happy New year! 2024 honestly was Mid. For all the great things I’m about to list there was equally shit bits. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to celebrate it.

This year, I completely upended my living space, Said goodbye to my family’s static Caravan, Got my phone snagged by Fergus MANY TIMES! Completed in my first Game Jam, Completed my first Inktober, attended my first pride, travelled down to Blackpool for the first time, almost had Blackpool tower collapse under my feet, played so many boardgames, and Successful complete my HNC. Definitely worth celebrating.

I may have went mad with this one. This was meant to be another artist who required me to make a comic. That’s not happening so instead I’m doing a highly rendered neon style BECAUSE THATS SO MUCH EASIER! So I draw Franco going mad.

The artist whose style I’m mimicking here is @par0llel ignoring how strong their colour palette is I wanted to study shading, shadows, and 3D-ness as it’s so vivid in their art. I don’t think I fully figured it out. There must be some trick to this kind of thing, but I like the final product. It’s nice 😊.

I’m free for the full day today, so I can try and catchup on some Franco doodles. This artist is @laenarraa a mainly Zelda fan artist but they do bits of everything.

I wanted to learn from them how to render messily but still have a neat outcome. They have overlaying line-art and messy blocky shadows that help ground their characters and bring out the expressions. I rarely enjoy the Link x Zelda thing the fanbase has but GOD, the way they are drawn in these artworks makes be adore them. There was also an anatomy lesson baked into this. (I need to get Franco a boyfriend…) beautiful art.

Anyway does this count as an impsona? I know fans create themselves as imps but Franco isn’t me… also Vivienne Madrano is on the wheel so I could just be doing the Hasbin Hotel style anyway… I DONT KNOW!

Today I rolled @lilivae_art whose colours are brilliant. I was really focusing on the bold lines and blocky colours. In planning I was torn between trying one of their toy drawings they do or going more realistic (still lovingly cartoony in this style but more realistic than the toys). It was the incredible depictions of Angeldust that inspired me to draw Franco tipsy like this.

I’ve never talked about that part of his character. Franco’s drinking problem came about as part joke, part foreshadowing, part callback to my Wizard character. See a running joke was I always seemed to roll better fireball spells when I was drunk, so we decided Franco couldn’t hold his boos. As Franco’s story became darker and darker the party started taking the joke more seriously and now he has a therapy dog for when he’s sad. 😄🐶

Today I rolled @rain0009 whose brilliant sketchy style is both aesthetically pleasing and far closer to my own style. I’m drawing my oc in the styles of other artists, seeing what I can learn and I guess today was a lesson in lowering my brush size. I’m typically scared to do that because of the “lack of control” I feel, but dam this made me rethink that. I truly enjoyed this one. Also FRANCO HAS NEVER LOOKED SO COOL!

Day 2 of Franco art I rolled @cykedelia and I love their faces. They do these brilliant closeups and I wanted to mimic one of their “star boy” character. I also thought I’d show part of the actual study, understanding how they change the eye, mouth, and nose shape depending on angle and expression. It’s really impressive. Overall I’m not very happy with the peace but i feel I captured a good emotion so I’ll call it a win.

I did intend to do two angles but ran out of time and could only do the one. May return to this however.

Day one of Franco drawing and I got a full scene to celebrate! @applemangocrape was who I rolled today, they are an incredible surliest artist with a lovely mundanity mixed with beautiful madness style I love.
I took today as a composition challenge, all of Apple’s art follows mainly one character doing something mundane as the focus and complementary wacky surroundings to fill the page, seeing how they can draw the eye to that core character is what I tried to capture. Kinda the opposite of different stands out from mundane, where there is so much different mundane is cozy.
I picked the deer because, well one Christmas, two 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, and three I really enjoyed the fish and sheep peaces Apple has done and wanted to also capture an animal that I think pairs well with my run-away boy.
I also took a lot of inspiration from the witchy nature peaces and their seagull girl peaces for the environment and Franco’s outfit. Both incredibly fun to draw.

I’m trying something Fun with my best boy over December, I’ve made a spinny wheel of 100 artists I follow here on instagram. I will spin this wheel each day and try to draw Franco in that artists style as best as I can.
Each day I’ll try and learn something new from my fellow artists and better my own style and method.
By the end of the month I’ll have 33 different pictures of Franco. This start doodle, 31 doodles in different styles and an end doodle come January, we will see how Franco and my art style change.
I’ll also try Timelapse-ing the process more often, I liked doing that.

#inktober I DID IT! The final day. I’m famously bad at starting things and not finishing them, it’s a terrible autistic habit but I did it! I think I’ve found my meditation method as well I got so relaxed with all of these drawing. I think I want to have a try at connected artworks or comics surrounding Franco now. Not D&D Franco but OC Franco. Thank you all for the words of encouragement, I feel so much more confident in my art now, thank you.

This show has given me so much joy over these months. Day 29 of #inktober I cannot explain why the “you can smile!” From HUNTERxHUNTER’s intro makes me so happy. Probably because the upbeat intro is so contrary to this show about what is essentially a death game where children are fighting psychopaths, but it’s also so correct, so the message and vibe. Yeah he slowly evaporates into dust screaming in agony but aren’t Gon and Killua adorable ☺️. Genuinely so impressive, in love with this world.

WHY DID I PICK SUCH A DIFFICULT FISH TO DRAW 😭. #inktober day 28 part 2, Links awakening is my favourite Zelda game, so I had to draw the ending with the wind fish flying above link. The only issue is why the windfall fish is SO DIFFICULT TO DRAW! I’ve done it to flat. There are a few I want to redo of once October is over and this is definitely one.

Day 28 of Inktober part 1. I really want to make this the last double draw day before Halloween don’t know if that’ll happen. Also this is truly obscure now, I grew up with a wacky races DvD with like 6 episodes, nobody who follows me cares about this. This one’s for me and me alone.

I was having the discussion with friends while drawing, it’s funny that D&D created Rangers to mimic Legolas when Aragorn is literally the Ranger in the story. Legolas is just a fighter with a bow.

Day 15 part 2 of #inktober .
I’ve always been a Spyro kid! The more I think about it he WAS my mascot platformer growing up. Mario/ Sonic/ Crash/ Mega-man/ Ray-man I enjoyed in small bursts but Spyro god I played the heck out of Spyro largely a hand-me down from my sister.

I was also the Skylanders generation so once I got everything out of the original trilogy like magic I got a new Skylanders game every year, so by choice or chance I love this dragon.

Though this seems unrelated there is a reason I drew the runaway bride today. #inktober day 15 part 1, this weeks been extremely busy so there will be more of these duel days coming up sorry.

Doctor who’s my mastermind specialist subject, It’s my favourite creative endeavour period, as such I can 3 degrees of separation any conversation topic back to Doctor who. But
If you know the episode I’ve doodled “the runaway bride” it isn’t immediately apparent what it’s got to do with “roam” and admittedly it’s a very tiny (yet fun) piece of trivia.

In all of David Tennents Christmas specials composer for the series at the time Murray Gold would add an original pop song posing as an in-universe “Christmas number one” that’s lyrics deconstructed where the doctors character was, at the end of the season.

In “The Christmas Invasion” it was “Song for 10” that played over the Tyler’s Christmas dinner. The song explained the doctor more human outlook, romantic feelings towards rose and straight up spoiled the ending of “Doomsday” in verse 3.

In “The Runaway Bride” it was “Love don’t ROAM” the song that played at Donna’s wedding, about the Doctor imagining life if Rose stayed, this one’s different to miss as they intertwine people dancing with clips of the two as the song plays.

And finally in “Voyage of the Dammed” they switched it up and had “Stowaway”. A song from Martha’s perspective (who isn’t in the episode) but recounts her unrequited romance questioning how the doctor is without her, how ignorant he is to effect Roses loss left on him and if he truly understands humans.

So a Doodle and a fun Doctor Who fact to boot today!

I’ve missed a day before so you know the drill. This time it’s cozy game themed! #inktober day 13 part 1 remote really stumped me but I’m glad I settled on Sebastian’s little romantic bike trip from stardew valley.
I don’t think I went down Seb’s story in my stardew play through but even still it’s a lovely scene I may log back on to try and see.
